Few years ago LIDAR sensors have been an expensive development tool. Now, with fully solid-state sensors entering market, it is certain that LIDARs will be leading technology in development of autonomous vehicles.

We are proud to offer market leading LIDAR sensors from IBEO Automotive Systems GmbH. IBEO Automotive Systems GmbH is German technology company specialised in LIDAR sensors for autonomous driving. Additionally to developing state-of-the-art sensors, IBEO also provides software solutions for detection and classification, sensor fusion, mapping as well as referencing tools.

LIDAR technology

A LIDAR (Light Detection and Ranging) sensor uses the so called Time of Flight method in which a distance to an object is calculated from time needed by a laser pulse to reach that object. LIDAR sensors have good sampling rates, a high angular resolution, a wide field of view and can detect targets within a distance of 200+ meters. LIDARS also provide objects’ contour shape and information about surface reflectivity, which are of great value when detections are to be classified or free space is to be assessed. Being an active sensor, LIDAR is independent to light conditions and robust to adverse weather.

Combination of of up to six LIDAR sensors can create a 360° view around the vehicle for environmental perception and object tracking. Therefore, a LIDAR based system can be used to detect both static and dynamic objects with great accuracy, providing information needed for vehicle control system to act.

IBEO LUX

IBEO LUX is a family of high-performance automotive LIDAR seniors, that can be used for building autonomous driving solutions and (due to high accuracy) referencing of other sensor types. LUX LIDARs are eye-safe (Class 1) near infrared time-of-flight laser sensors characterised with high effective range, multi-echo detections and from 4 to 8 scanning layers. Moreover, IBEO LUX sensors are equipped with embedded classification and tracking software and provide not only point-clouds, but also robust detection of road users. With use of IBEO ECU and SynchBox, up to 6 sensors can be mechanically synchronised and their readouts can be easily combined into a single data stream. Additionally, embedded tracking can be improved with use of state-of-the-art algorithms.

IBEO LUX 4L

4 layer multi-echo laser scanner, range up to 200m, 110x3.2 deg horizontal/vertical FOV, embedded tracking up to 64 objects @ 12.5 Hz.

IBEO LUX 8L

8 layer multi-echo laser scanner, range up to 200m, 110x6.4 deg horizontal/vertical FOV, embedded tracking up to 64 objects @ 6.25 Hz.

IBEO LUX HD

4 layer multi-echo laser scanner ruggedized against environmental conditions, range up to 120m, 110x3.2 deg horizontal/vertical FOV, embedded tracking up to 64 objects @ 12.5 Hz.

IBEO SCALA

SCALA is the first commercially used, mass production automotive LIDAR sensor. Scala eye-safe (Class 1) near infrared time-of-flight laser sensors characterised with high effective range, multi-echo detections, vide horizontal FOV (140 deg.) and effective 4 scanning layers. Presently, SCALA is used by AUDI as a main ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistant System) senor. SCALA internal processor is capable of full use of advanced IBEO tracking algorithms without additional ECU.

IBEO NEXT

Most of nowadays LIDAR sensors either uses rotating mirror or rotating sensor head. Mechanical parts require high precision and are more difficult to build than purely electronic devices. Thus, LIDAR sensors are more expensive when compared to e.g. radar-on-a-chip, in most cases beyond wide commercial use.

NEXT has no moving parts. It is small, robust, purely electronic and optics FLASH LIDAR sensor with excellent range, resolution and FOV. Moreover, NEXT can be easily adapted to fulfil many roles needed for ADAS sensors – be it extreme-range narrow beam sensor for frontal detection on highway or vide FOV, mid range side or near surrounding sensor.
